Stargate Studios has opened Stargate London to offer VFX and virtual production to the UK TV and film industries.
A wealth of talent from the UK VFX industry is set for a strong showing at BAFTA in London this coming Wednesday, as the inauguaral VFX-Imagination Unlimited conference gets underway.
They’ll be extending the trophy cabinet at Framestore this morning after Gravity scooped the Best Visual Effects award as well as a clutch of other Oscars, including Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and the Best Directing award.

Visual effects house Cinesite completed over 430 shots on Paramount’s World War Z, including turning Glasgow into Philadelphia, as well as stereo conversion of the VFX. Framestore’s Art Department developed the concepts for the film’s zombies and their unique style of movement, while The Third Floor provided digital previsualisation for the film. MPC also contributed VFX to bring the zombie swarms to horrific life.

Congratulations to Double Negative which has won the award for Special Visual Effects in this year’s BAFTA awards for its work on Inception. The prize followed a clutch of awards for the film at the annual Visual Effects Society awards, which also saw MPC and Framestore win gongs.
MPC completed over 180 shots for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, including bringing Nagini the snake to life, creating digi-doubles for the ‘polyjuice transformation’ sequence and carrying out extensive environment work.
