Shooting date set for The Hobbit

Principal shooting will start on 21 March for The Hobbit movies at Stone Street Studios in Miramar and around  New Zealand.  “We are fully back on track and very excited to get started,” Sir Peter Jackson commented in a statement released by 3Foot7 Ltd.

The Hobbit will be produced as two movies, as with The Lord Of The Rings trilogy they will be shot back-to-back on location in New Zealand utilizing the expertise of Weta Workshop and Weta Digital.

Peter Jackson is the Executive Producer and also the Director. Jackson has also written the screenplay, together with Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Guillermo del Toro.

The two films are planned to premiere in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

A story on the Weta Workshop site reports that this date has been chosen following practical considerations of the filming schedule requirements, actor availability and the New Zealand seasons.
